On December 18, 2017 the British Columbia provincial government announced a total ban on grizzly bear hunting (press release). For more information about Coastal First Nations support for this ban you can read here.
As much as this recent news is to be celebrated, trophy hunting is still permitted for black bears, wolves, cougars and wolverines throughout British Columbia. In 2018, the Gencon Foundation will be supporting the Raincoast Conservation Foundation in its efforts to permanently end the commercial trophy hunting of all large carnivores in the Great Bear Rainforest.
